Holiday Reflections

AC Appraisals 2021 Year in Review

After the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations is over, after all the gifts have been opened, and after all the dishes have been washed, you can finally take a moment (hopefully a few) to relax. For me, the holidays mean spending time with family, visiting with friends, and eating way too much yummy food. Like the twinkling lights reflecting off the tinsel, I take time to reflect before ringing in the New Year.

The past twelve months have been filled with many accomplishments and unforeseen challenges. Entering our third lockdown in the spring was most certainly the biggest challenge. Not knowing when I could return to having in person appointments was frightening. However the “down time” provided me with an opportunity to continue developing my business.

Being a business owner is no easy task. With tremendous support from wonderful business women, mentors, family, and friends, the job has become easier. I was very fortunate to have received support and guidance from several mentors over the past 12 months. To Alexis, Amy, Anjali, Anna, Geoff, Joel, Karen, Loreto, Michelle and countless others, thank you for your time and for your continued support.

When I think back to when I first had the idea of starting my own business, to where I am now, I am astounded by the growth both personally and professionally. Being a business owner has forced me to step outside my comfort zone, constantly learn new things, and improvise on the fly. To anyone considering entrepreneurship, there will never be a perfect time to start, so why not START NOW?! Having started by business at the worst possible time (weeks before the entire world went into lockdown), I have taken every hurdle the pandemic has thrown at me and turned it into an opportunity to learn. Coming out on the other side with nothing more than a few minor blemishes is a testament to hard work, dedication, and perseverance even in what seems like dire times.

Remember to always find the good even in hard times and be empathetic, you never know what is going on below the surface. Remember to give yourself a break and take time to enjoy every success, no matter how small it may seem. And remember to surround yourself with people who support you, who are honest with you, and who share your values.

As we transition into 2022, AC Appraisals is looking forward to an exciting year. I hope to reconnect with industry professionals at conferences whether in-person or virtual. AC Appraisals has geminars planned for March and May. New wedding appraisal packages will be announced in the New Year in addition to my regular service offerings. I will continue my volunteer efforts and I am excited to begin two new volunteering opportunities; one with the CJA Membership committee and the other as the Co-Chair of the WJA New York Metro Membership Committee.

Here’s to the New Year and new possibilities! Wishing you and your family all the best in 2022!

Sincerely,

Alanna
